Property
Perched on a plateau and surrounded by luscious woodland, Hiša nad Sočo boasts benefits from one of the most breathtaking views of the stunning Soča river against the backdrop of the majestic Julian Alps that we have come across. The house has been carefully designed to take full advantage of this view and the area has a wonderfully energy about it. With its own 300m long driveway and 10 hectares of gardens, comprising both wild fields and manicured lawns, the house is still just 2km from the beautiful Most na Soci and all its amenities, including a supermarket, bakery, butcher, cafes and restaurants.
The house combines the old and traditional with the modern luxuries of 21st century living. Full of fine antiques, the property itself is a huge large, old, traditional farmhouse which has been lovingly and caringly restored, with no expense spared. Dating from the 19th century and with its thick walls and vaulted ceilings, the house is both warm in winter and cool in summer. On the ground floor, the traditional hefty stone floor is warm underfoot thanks to underfloor heating, as are all the bathrooms. Here there is a large kitchen and formal dining room which seats 10 people and is perfect for long enjoyable evenings over some traditional Slovenian cooking and a few glasses of wine. A top superb local chef is on hand, should you fancy putting your feet up and having the work done for you. Also on this floor is the laundry room, WC, wine cellar and an informal 'snug', complete with a huge plasma TV, beanbags, a large selection of dvds and an XBox and games. Finally, there is a sauna, perfect for relaxing those muscles after an energetic days skiing or hiking, before sinking into the Jacuzzi with a glass of bubbly!
A beautiful rustic oak staircase leads up to the first floor with its three ensuite bedrooms and wide floorboards. The showpiece of the top floor is a 200 year old parquet masterpiece taken from an old palatial house in Ljubljana. A kitchen, open log fire, huge comfortable sofa, Sky TV, iPod dock and wireless internet are also located on the top floor, as is the master bedroom. Both kitchens have beautiful stone sinks and work tops, and the ovens and hobs are extremely high-quality. All necessary kitchen equipment is provided, including heavy-duty saucepans, toasters and kettles.
Garden
Outside, steps lead down to the swimming pool, complete with a number of sun loungers and far too many inflatables! It is easy to pass away a warm sunny afternoon by the pool in complete tranquility. Equally enjoyable is the walk along the many paths which lead around the extensive grounds and past wild flowers There is a balcony, outdoor kitchen and eating area, sand pit, wild flowers and many benches to sit and enjoy being outdoors numerous fruit trees growing in the grounds include kiwis, walnuts, apples and pears. Subsequently, an organic herb and vegetable garden set in a beautiful old ruin mean you can pick your own produce on a daily basis.

"it was just a fantastic! stay for all of us. the view and the accomedations were much more then we could expect. one comment is that i would apriciate if in the future it will be easier to contact directly with the house owner to clarify some essential accomedation issues."

"We have rented many, many lovely houses over the years and I can say with complete confidence that this was the most glorious - a definite "wow!" house. It took our breath away. The views are nothing short of stunning, the decoration and furnishing tasteful and high quality, the bathrooms and kitchens lavish, and the location just right for what we wanted to do, a mixture of walking, adventure activities and just enjoying the fabulous scenery. Victoria and Peter gave us a wonderful welcome. Nothing was too much trouble and they are delightful people. It is not often that one chooses to spend an evening chatting to the owners of the properties, who usually just regard it as a business, not a pleasure, to rent out the house. They can lay on dinners (we had a superb BBQ one night) and breakfasts, will advise on local sights and activities, and even arranged for the adventure activities company to come to the house and give their sales pitch. There is a well-stocked cellar, operated on an honesty system, and the kitchens have everything you could possibly need in them (though it is slightly odd having two!). It was wonderful, too, to pick salad and vegetables from the garden every day. The swimming pool is in an amazing position, surrounded by the lush garden and flowery meadows. Chamoix visited us, charming little lizards scuttled around and birds of prey circled overhead. The local village, Most na Soci, provides all you want from the supermarket and its an invigorating 25 minute training session to walk back up the very steep hill to the house - or four minutes drive! A couple of very minor niggles, which really dont matter much at all: being at the end of the electricity line, the power supply is slightly dodgy, which resulted in several cuts when we tried to run too many appliances and the oven at once. In addition, the sauna didnt get as hot as it should do. The owners are negotiating with the electricity company to have this fixed, but it may take a while. In addition, the directions to the house could be improved - we got there only after several phone calls - so we suggest taking the owners up on their offer of meeting you at the local petrol station! But both these little difficulties come as a result of the house being where it is in such an amazing position - and its definitely worth it. Wed certainly recommend it to anyone who appreciates the finer things in life!"
